I feel both fortunate and honored to have continued my Tang Soo Do training at Jae Nam Training Academy, starting in February 2018. Family issues and a career change prompted me to leave my previous dojang and I was at a loss if I could continue this art. I had known Master Acri for several years prior to this, and he welcomed me with open arms. He runs a no nonsense school with the primary focus of Korean martial arts. Plain and simple. However, he is not totally close minded to having other resources available to the community. He does not seek to be a social media influencer with his teachings, rather one that is very hands on and adaptable to people’s needs within the community. He has embraced my previous training in Isshin-Ryu and Daito Ryu Aikijujitsu to share with the student base other elements of martial arts training. We’ve added escrima training to enhance our existing Tang Soo Do abilities, such as empty hand techniques and blending into our weapons system. A more recent development to evolve the dojang in the teachings of the Korean healing art, Ki Gong. This is a skill set anyone can train, be it 8 or 80 years old. The offering of this art to those who do not wish to strike, kick and extend themselves do to physical limitations, yet still seek the benefits of physical training, well it’s perfectly ideal within the dojang settings. Master Acri is an open minded martial artist, with the dojang as his canvas to mold, nurture and educate the next generation of Tang Soo Do practitioners. I am honored to call him a friend.
